Dodger at Tupancy Links, sailboats in the distance |
The Island of Nantucket is nirvana for dogs. Almost one half of the land on Nantucket is under conservation and there are hundreds of acres that are available for off leash dog walking – Sanford Farms, Tupancy Links, the Gardiner Property, Lost Farm. NantucketDogWalk has great information on the abundant and varied walks, interesting blogs, beautiful photos and good pre-walk tips, if you are new to Nantucket or just visiting.
Walk around Town and the Historic District at almost any time of the day in any season and, chances are, you will see someone walking their dog (or dogs) or stopping to chat about their dogs, or the dogs they used to have, or the dogs they had to leave at home. You will never lack for conversation if you are walking your dog on Nantucket. The weather stays mild on Island well into November and the fall is a great time to visit, after the hustle and bustle of summer.
The Brass Lantern Inn is pet friendly – not just pet tolerant. We welcome our pet guests with a bed, bowls, a toy and a treat. We poll all the restaurants with patio dining at the beginning of the summer and compile a list of pet friendly restaurants – and then we try them (see next blog for our dinner at Dune). For guests who prefer to dine without their four legged friend, we have a list of pet sitters available. Since most of the guests at the Brass Lantern come without a car, we have a map of in-Town dog walks.
Put Nantucket on your list of places to go and visit – your dog will thank you for it!
