Off-season does not mean boring here on Nantucket. Thereโs still a ton to do for our guests to experience before the season kicks in high-gear. We open our doors for our 21st season, March 1, 2020, and we want to share with you a few Island activities you might enjoy if you have a reservations or plan on visiting us this early spring. By coming during the quiet months, not only can you take advantage of our off-season rates, you enjoy a relaxing visit to the island, where you feel like you have the whole Island to yourself. Here are a few Island experiences you do not want to miss while on island.
Nantucket Culinary Center is a year-round establishment and a campus of creativity – from booking demonstrations and private events. And, coffee and light snacks are always available at their cafe, Corner Table Cafe, you could find yourself spending a few hours participating in all that the Nantucket Culinary Center has to offer and their calendarโs page is populated with an array of events. One we would like to point out is every Thursday during the off-season months, enjoy local comedian, David Hayes host open mic at Nantucket Culinary Center, a free event to the public. Do you have a special talent? Who knows, you could be taking center stage and performing for the crowd. All manner of performance is encouraged!
Enjoy a theatrical reading from drama to comedy! The Theatre Workshop ofย Nantucket has partnered with the Nantucket Atheneum to present the 2020 Staged Reading Series. This free event features some of the islands most talented actorsย to keep you entertained from start to finish. On March 20th at 7pm, Michael and Susan Parker, directed by Pam Murphy will be performing Money Matters. “The late Mr. Hammond spent twenty years printing $20 bills on a printing press he built in the basement of Monet Manor. After his death ten years ago, his faithful retainer George and his daughter Annie, continued the family business forย Mr. Hammondโs widow who recently passed away. Contrary to her promise to leave the manor and all her assets to George and Annie, she has bequeathed the manor to a stranger, Mr. Bud Davis, who is emphatic about turning it into aย retirement home for ladiesโฆโ
During the off-season, many like to enjoy live music. Cisco Brewers, Faregrounds and Gaslightย ย one of Nantucketโs newest music and dinner venue (formerlyย Starlight Theater and Cafรฉ) are a few places you can enjoy tunes, drinks, and great food, in a friendly and casual atmosphere. Cisco offers performers such as Foggy Roots and Bucket and Shake, where Fairgrounds is open to the locals, and all singer, songwriters, and performers are welcome!
Winter walks with Allen and Neil, hosted by Nantucket Conservation Foundationย is a free event and family friendly. You will take a stroll through remote tucked away hidden areas of the island that you never knew about! You will learn about the foundation’s efforts with the Nantucket Land Bankย on restoring and maintaining the unique grassland and heathland plant communities of Nantucket.
